Provide an environment for older gamers who show maturity & respect for other gamers.
GS96 was founded by older gamers to be a place for older gamers to make good relationships with other members while playing the games we love. We are not interested in ‘drama’ but we are interested in good times together.
- Majority of GS96 members are over the age of 30. We have many in their 40s, 50s, 60s and Badaboom1942 who is 74 years old.
- We accept those over the age of 21 years old but they must show the maturity & respect to fit in with those older in GS96.
- We respect all gamers no matter their skill levels. We have many highly skilled members along with those new to PC gaming.
- We have opportunities for members to be involved in the GS96 operations. The more they are involved the more opportunities are made available.
- We strive to have a good time & fun while playing all the games we enjoy.
The start of the Golden Sidewinders 96th Division (GS96) began in the later part of 2008. Our core members, who are all over the age of 30 except for one individual, met while playing ‘Call of Duty: Modern Warfare’. We were playing on a server that played the map ‘Overgrown’ only. Over the next several months, the core members began relationships only by using the in-game text messaging. In June 2009, a server was purchased and the GS96 team started operations. The founding members were:
- Black Mamba
- Huck Finn
Starting with just one server quickly grew to three servers. The use of VoIP operations started with the XFIRE Chat Room system. The purchase of a Ventrilo server was made only to change to a TeamSpeak3 server for better quality.
We then met and made good friends from the ‘Dumb A** Rednecks’ (DAR) clan. Both DAR and GS96 have done some friendly clan matches together along with exchanging information (like Ban Lists).
Since 2009, we have been involved with many games like Battlefield. Today, our primary game of choice is Arma but we are involved in many other titles.
“I joined GS96 because my son joined and kept telling me this group was a blast to hang out with. I never really thought about joining any clan after we dissolved our old Quake clan that operated for many years but glad I did. I’ve only been in GS96 for a few months and have known everyone for less than 6 months but feel like i’ve known everyone for many years. Great values, the clan structure is great, and the interaction in TeamSpeak while playing makes it something to look forward to. Wish I had more time to play with everyone more than I do!”

“I am a hockey loving COD/BF3 playing Christian whose looking and trying to be a witness for Christ online and on the street. I hope as we are playing together I would be an example in character and faith and not disrespect my fellow players or Gods name.”

“I joined GS96 because they were the only clan to actually enforce the set rules on their servers. They were quick to get rid of hackers, and make the games enjoyable, as it should be. Since joining, I have met some great people, who are good players, as well as friends.”

“Life is short, play hard. But I would add, do so with people you enjoy. That sums up my gaming experience. I was relatively new to online gaming and was feverishly perusing the next level or more accurately the next prestige. I was in and out of different games and would get to play with a friend or two when we were lucky enough to be online at the same time. By accident, I stumbled into the GS96 Black Ops server. Things immediately clicked for me as I found the GS96 players to be well mannered, friendly and not intimidating. I had questions about how things worked and was open to learning the tricks of playing. They were engaging and made my gaming experience more entertaining. Those that were more skilled at playing openly gave advice and helped shape me into the player I wanted to become. I applied for membership and was accepted. I am now part of a clan that is comprised of men and women of various ages and levels of skill. Getting to experience the people behind the players is the best part of belonging to a group like this. Our success and longevity as a gaming clan is attributed in large part to us being extremely well managed and organized, from our website to Teamspeak and all that is in between. Everything our leadership does is done to the highest degree of quality possible. They have made what is largely regarded as an individual endeavor feel more like a team sport. Paraphrasing Babe Ruth….The way a team plays as a whole determines its success. You may have the greatest bunch of individual stars in the world, but if they don’t play together, the club won’t be worth a dime…for the next level in your gaming experience there is only one option: Golden Sidewinders 96th Division.”

“I joined GS96 because of the maturity of the players and the rules on the servers. Although as I began to play with the members of the GS96 I became aware that this was not just a mature group of people, but that they genuinely want to see their members succeed in having the best gaming experience. I have learned a lot from the more experienced players and I have a group of people that I feel are like brothers and Sisters that share a common interesting gamin.”

“I first came across GS96 when a fellow clan member would play on the server quite often…so I of course would spawn in on him and join the festivities. For me the server was exactly what I enjoy with it’s good rotation of maps, rules etc….but of course there are lots of servers like that out there…After some time of playing as a regular on the server I was invited to join them on TS and of course was more than happy to….So what made GS96 stand out was the great bunch of guys and gals that play there…NO BS just having fun playing BF…trying their best and not worrying whether you lived or died or the final score. Online gaming experience is fun but much more when you can enjoy it with a great bunch of people with many similarities to you beyond gaming…some fun ribbing….some good jokes and not so good one. 🙂 Very happy i joined and look forward to killing them each day!”

“I was drawn to GS96 back in the days of the old CoD 4 Bolt Sniper server. The rules were fantastic and the admins made sure they were followed, offering no exception to anybody. And the best rule? Be mature and respectful to other gamers. I have also come to greatly respect the way cheaters and hackers are handled, being thoroughly reviewed before a ban is handed (some people can be just that good).
Since I’ve been in the clan, it’s only gotten better. There’s almost always a good time on the Teamspeak server as well as the game servers and everyone is very supportive of each other. I have been in many gaming clans throughout my time playing Quake 3 and Call of Duty and this one has definitely been the best.”
